A few weeks ago Kelly stopped by the Billboard offices for an interview on the Soul Sisters Podcast.
Kelly Rowland joins Soul Sisters to talk past (Destiny’s Child), present (new book) and future (new music!) and goes deep on issues ranging from race to gender to, yes, growing up with Beyoncé.
“Solange was coming up under us so we had to be good role modes for her,” she recalls of their well-behaved adolescence (only slightly begrudgingly).
Listen as Rowland gets real about why she decided to write Whoa, Baby!: A Guide for New Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed and Freaked Out (and Wonder What the #*$& Just Happened) (“My stomach is stretched, it’s the color of charcoal, I put a mirror down there and I don’t know what she looks like anymore…”) and just how good it feels to be back in the studio.
“I finally have my message and that’s the best feeling in the world,” she says. “I remember when DC locked in on The Writing’s On the Wall as a sound and I was like, ‘That’s mine!’ It’s such a good feeling to know that that sound just sounds like you.”
